“Listen, guys! What happened to you, United States? What is happening? You have forgotten the best of the best in the world, the name of Jesus! Wake up, USA! Return to it, return! Return to Jesus, not a gay Jesus”, said Yoel still in the Octagon.

Shortly after the Cuban's speech, the repercussion was instantaneous as the United States Supreme Court, which legalized same-sex marriage throughout the country, contradicted a portion of the population. Criticism and support for the fighter's Christian thoughts spread across social media around the world.

Explanation

After the immediate controversy, Romero tried to calm things down in the UFC Fight Night 70 press room. Despite apologizing, the Cuban fighter made a new Christian speech to justify his position.

“If I caused any misunderstanding, I apologize and forgive anyone who felt offended. I am a man of God, and God is love. However, everything I talk about will always be about love. Everything I said in the Octagon was about the American dream. There was a misunderstanding about gay marriage. I also want to say that God said to Mary Magdalene: 'You are a prostitute, go and sin no more'”, analyzed Romero.
