Brazil regained the Ultimate heavyweight belt last Saturday (13), when Fabricio Werdum won Cain Velazquez at UFC 188, and you can now guarantee that he will remain in the country even after the next title fight. This is because president Dana White included the name of the Brazilian and former champion Junior Gypsy on the list of possible first challengers to Werdum.
“Two fighters (Junior Gypsy e Andrei Arlovski, second and fourth respectively in the official rankings) were here today and they are bothering me because they want this fight. This leaves us with several interesting options. The heavyweight division is very busy right now and Cain will return (to the line) very furious. Let’s see how everything will turn out”, said the director, at the press conference after the event in Mexico.
Be Junior Gypsy ou Andrei Arlovski the one chosen to challenge Fabricio Werdum, the duel would be a rematch, and in both cases a chance for the new champion to avenge a past defeat. In “Vai Cavalo’s” first stint in Ultimate, in 2007 and 2008, setbacks against Arlovski and, mainly, Cigano ended up causing his dismissal from the biggest MMA organization on the planet.
