The doping case involving Anderson Silva shocked the MMA world this week. In a test carried out on January 9, the former UFC middleweight champion had anabolic substances detected in his body, something that is prohibited, and he is still awaiting the results of the test to prepare his defense.

However, this situation is nothing new at the Black House gym, where Anderson carries out part of his training. Coincidence or not, in the recent past, two athletes from the team, Kevin Casey and Brian ortega, were caught in anti-doping tests using exactly drostanolone, the same substance found in “Spider”.

Casey crashed the exam after his fight in July last year, at UFC 175, when he had defeated Bubba Bush by knockout. He received a one-year suspension and a $5 fine. In the same month, Ortega failed after UFC on FOX 12, where Mike de la Torre had finished, although the result was only announced the following month. The 23-year-old athlete was jailed for nine months and fined US$2,5. In both Casey's and Ortega's cases, the results of the fights were reversed. no-contest, so that they both lost their victories.

At the time, Black House partner and Anderson's manager, Ed Soares, explained the events. "It's not what it looks like. Ortega only attends the Black House for 10% of his training time, while Casey trains for 75% of his time with us,” said Soares, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”. “But in all the time I’ve been working with athletes, I think this has only happened three times, and it happened to be two of them in a month-long period.”
