With a line of people interested in dethroning him, Islam makhachev sees his near future outside the lightweight category (up to 70,3 kg). The champion, who defends the belt for the third time against Dustin poirier in the main fight of UFC 302, on June 1st, he believes he no longer has any challenges within the division.
In an interview with 'The New York Post', Makhachev reinforced the argument that he does not have worthy challengers within the lightweight category and the campaign for a chance to move up to welterweight in search of a second simultaneous belt.

“Honestly, I don’t have any exciting fights, because Dustin poirier is coming off just one win. We have Arman Tsarukyan, but I already beat this guy. In my opinion, I no longer have jobs in my division. I think the UFC has to give me a chance for the second belt, because I've already beaten all these guys”, said the Russian.
