It seems, Dustin poirier will be the next challenger for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg). On Sunday afternoon (07), 'Diamante' posted a photo on his Instagram announcing that the Russian Islam makhachev, current champion of the category, will be his next rival in Ultimate. "Islam makhachev It is the next. The time has come to go to the top”, wrote Poirier.
Former interim lightweight champion, Dustin recovered from his irregular run of results by knocking out the French prospect Benoit Saint-Denis No. UFC 299, held last March. One of the most experienced athletes on the Ultimate squad, where he has worked since 2011, 'Diamante' has 30 fights in the organization with 22 wins, seven losses and one 'no-contest'.
Lightweight champion since October 2022, Islam makhachev has already defended his belt twice, both times against Alexander Volkanovsky. The Russian won the first clash with a unanimous decision by the judges and the second with a brutal knockout in the first round. The pupil of Khabib Nurmagomedov boasts an MMA record of 25 wins and just one setback.
