Protagonists of the strong candidate for “Fight of the Year” in 2014, José Aldo e Chad Mendes received a 60-day medical suspension after the main attraction of UFC Rio 5, as UFC 179 became known.
Both the Brazilian, winner of the fight according to the judges' decision, and the North American, must also spend 45 days without any type of physical contact according to the list released by the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, the body that supervises events held in Brazil .
Two athletes received a longer hook. Phil Davis, which hit Glover Teixeira in the co-main fight of the night, he could be out for up to six months due to an injury to his right hand. He may be allowed to fight again if he presents an x-ray that shows his recovery. The same applies to Scott Jorgensen, defeated by Wilson reis, who must present an x-ray examination of his rib hit by a strong kick from the Brazilian.
