Considered by many as one of the best MMA fighters of all time, Georges St-Pierre declared himself a fan of Alexander Volkanovsky. In a question and answer session with fans, released by 'Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA', the sports legend minimized the two consecutive defeats suffered by the Australian in his attempt to win the lightweight title (up to 70,3kg) against Islam makhachev. In the Canadian's opinion, even with his stumbles, the 'Big One' is a superior athlete.

“If you watch any sport, the winning team is not always the best. The best team doesn't always win, otherwise it would be boring. You do analysis and bet on a certain team, but it doesn't always happen. (…) The same applies in fighting. The fighter who wins is not always the best. The winner is whoever performs best on the night. I’m not making excuses, but that’s how it goes sometimes,” St-Pierre said.

At the top of the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg) since 2019, Volkanovski has a date and place for his next challenge. Coming from a tough defeat to Makhachev, in a challenge accepted at the last minute, the Australian returns to his category and faces Ilia Topuria No. UFC 298.

Against the Spaniard, Alexander tries to expand his legacy in the division. If he wins, the athlete will reach the mark of six title defenses.
