Kevin Lee gives up on retirement and announces return to MMA in a post on social media

Former challenger for the interim UFC lightweight belt, Kevin Lee announced his retirement in July 2023, at the age of 30

Former challenger for the interim lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg), Kevin Lee surprised everyone in July last year when he announced his early retirement from MMA at just 30 years old. About six months later, however, the American rethought and decided to return to MMA.

The announcement was made by the Kevin Lee through publication on the social network 'X' (formerly Twitter). The 'Motown Phenom' assured that he is preparing to compete again, although he still doesn't know when, where, or against whom his return will be.

“I'm coming back from retirement. I'm going to fight MMA again. I don't know when, where or with whom yet, but I'm cutting weight and getting in shape now,” Lee wrote.

Hired by UFC in 2014, Kevin Lee he quickly stood out as one of the main promises in the lightweight division. Riding on a streak of five victories between 2016 and 2017, he came to compete for the interim belt in the category, but ended up finishing by Tony Ferguson at UFC 216.

Since then, Lee has never been able to maintain the level of performance demonstrated at the beginning of his career. After suffering four defeats in five fights, he said goodbye to Ultimate in 2021, but returned to the organization in 2023 to be finished in less than a minute by Rinat Fakhretdinov before announcing his retirement.
