The main function of the central referee in an MMA fight is to protect the physical integrity of the athletes involved in the fight. However, as in any activity in our daily lives, not everyone performs their roles in the best way possible and the result can be disastrous. During the fight between Bobby Pallett and Birgir Tomasson at the Shinobi War 3 event, held in Wales, the judge's omission certainly cost Pallett dearly.

The home athlete took a powerful follow-up from his rival in the last round and fell to the canvas, falling unconscious. However, given the central referee's non-intervention, Icelandic Birgir Tomasson continued to strike his opponent. The judge's omission was such that Pallett had enough time to get up again and suffer another knockout. This time, however, the fight was finally stopped.
