At the beginning of 2013, the UFC, trying to minimize the controversy among its fans, finally decided to create an official ranking. The list, updated weekly based on voting by journalists from around the world, presents all of the organization's categories, as well as the order of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

In this item, Jon Jones appears in first position, ahead of José Aldo with Cain Velazquez, Demetrious Johnson e Chris Weidman completing the top 5. However, the UFC featherweight champion has a different take on the pound-for-pound list. “Technically speaking, I feel like I’m the best in the world, but that doesn’t mean I think I’m unbeatable. I continue to do everything to remain champion”, said the fighter, in an interview with the website “Ag. Fight.”

Even though he believes he is the most skilled fighter on the planet, Aldo guarantees that he continues to work hard to continue evolving as an athlete. “Whether I'm number one or not is up to the fans and the media, but I have my opinion. The important thing is that I am still evolving as a fighter and I have a lot to improve,” he continued.

Aldo, featherweight champion since the division was created in the UFC in 2011, will defend his belt again next month. At UFC 179, in Rio de Janeiro, the Nova União fighter will face an old acquaintance, Chad Mendes, whom he already defeated once in “Cidade Maravilhosa” in 2012.
