Overeem said he heard the American's right arm snap after a kick given in the opening moments of the fight. Confident that Rothwell wouldn't strike with his injured limb, the former Strikeforce champion exposed himself and was knocked out.

In a post made to your account on Instagram, Overeem made the first comments about the fight. “I was in great shape and the preparation had been great. Thank you to everyone involved, from the coaches to the physiotherapists. You are all great. About the fight, I made a mistake. I heard Ben's arm snapping from one of the kicks and didn't expect him to hit me with the same arm. We knew that Ben is a tough and strong guy – well, we confirmed that during the fight”, wrote the fighter.

Despite yet another setback in the Octagon, Overeem assured that he won't let the result get him down. “Things don’t always go as planned, but as long as we stay optimistic, everything should be fine. I've had bad times both in my personal life and in my career, but I've also had great times, so I'm not going to complain. I’m looking forward to the next challenge,” he concluded.
