Islam Makhachev anticipates UFC and suggests Charles do Bronx's next step in the organization

Champion who would face an injured Brazilian this Saturday points the way to star of the division

Days after having the rematch against Charles of the Bronx cancelled, Islam makhachev previewed Ultimate and pointed out the Brazilian star's next step in the organization. In a press conference, the lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), who now faces Alexander Volkanovsky No. UFC 294, indicated that the São Paulo native needs another fight before qualifying for a new fight for the title.

“I'm going to beat Volkanovski and then I have two opponents: (Justin) Gaethje and Charles. I think they have to fight again and whoever wins, I'll beat too,” said Makhachev, at a promotional press conference for the UFC 294.

This weekend, Do Bronx would travel to Abu Dhabi a year after the adverse result in his first attempt to regain the title controversially lost in 2022. The Brazilian, however, ended up suffering an injury on the eve of the challenge and ended up leaving the commitment.

Without Charles, Ultimate acted quickly and scaled Alexander Volkanovsky, featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) for the match against the Russian champion. The Australian, like the Brazilian, seeks to reverse his stumble against his pupil Khabib Nurmagomedov. In February, the star had his dream of winning his second belt in the company frustrated.
