In the early hours of this Thursday (14), in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), jiu-jitsu fighter Tiago Ahmar de Moraes handed himself over to the police. Thiago is the main suspect in the death of his own son, just 2 years old, who was allegedly subjected to several attacks, in a crime that occurred on July 18th in Vinhedo (SP).
The meeting between Tiago and the police officers was scheduled by his lawyer with the São Paulo Civil Police, responsible for investigating the case. As of last month, the fighter already had an arrest warrant issued and was on the run in Paraguay. The information was released by “RPCTV”, an affiliate of Rede Globo in Paraná.
To the broadcaster, the boy's mother, Cristiana Costa, presented her version of what happened and said that Tiago was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack on her son. According to Cristiana, the father did not constantly attack the child, but did so mainly when he was irritated by his crying.
The boy died on July 24th in a hospital in Campinas (SP) after being hospitalized for a week with head trauma and perforation of vital organs.
Tragedy already had another version
Despite the current statements, the boy's mother presented another version of the case shortly after her son's death. Cristiana's first statement stated that the child had fallen from a toy at home. The professionals responsible for the boy's care were suspicious of the report and contacted the Guardianship Council.
The version presented was short-lived and a few days after her son's death, Cristiana gave an interview in which she pointed to the child's father as responsible for what happened. Furthermore, the mother said she expected Tiago to be arrested and justified the alternation in the statements by stating that she received threats from her ex-spouse.
