Charles of the Bronx had plenty of reason to celebrate after his most recent fight. Last Saturday (28), in New Zealand, the Brazilian beat Hatsu Hioki by submission in the second round, becoming the first fighter to make the Japanese veteran do all three taps. To top it off, Do Bronx won one of the event's “Performance of the Night” awards, pocketing an extra sum of US$50.

This was the seventh time that the 24-year-old fighter was awarded a bonus in the UFC, also marking his sixth victory in the event, all of which were by submission. “I studied my opponent a lot, he’s a tough guy. He works both standing up and on the ground and I came to take risks both standing up and on the ground. Wherever the fight was going on, I would be working. We exchanged blows standing up, in the clinch, we worked on jiu-jitsu and thank God he fell into what I like to do most, which is the hand triangle”, celebrated the Brazilian, in an interview with the North American website “Sherdog”. “I’m not going in search of the bonus, I’m going in search of trying to win. When the bonus comes, I’m much happier,” he added.

It was the second consecutive victory for the Brazilian fighter, who was coming off a victory over Andy Ogle in Jaraguá do Sul, in February. Before, however, Do Bronx had suffered two defeats in a row, to Cub swanson e Frankie Edgar.
