Cub swanson dreams big after his victory at UFC Fight Night 44, held last Saturday (28). The North American fighter, who achieved his sixth consecutive triumph in Ultimate by overcoming Jeremy Stephens in the judges' decision, he hopes to then be able to challenge José Aldo for the organization's featherweight title.
As inspiration, Swanson cited the example of his compatriot Chris Weidman, who, last year, defeated the fighter who was considered the king of his category, Anderson Silva. “Of course I want to fight Aldo. It would be like Chris Weidman defeating Anderson Silva, he understands? I want to be the guy who dethrones the legend. A fight for the title is a fight for the title”, said the fighter in a press conference reproduced by the North American website “Sherdog”.
If Swanson does face Aldo, the fight will be a rematch. The fighters already dueled in 2009, at the WEC, with a lightning victory for the Brazilian. Eight seconds into the fight, Aldo landed a double flying knee, achieving the technical knockout.
However, before worrying about Swanson, Aldo must defend his belt again against another old acquaintance. He will face Chad Mendes on August 2, a rematch of the fight held in January 2012.
