Five years after the defeat suffered by Dustin poirier, Justin gaethje prepares for a rematch against his rival. Scheduled to fight for the BMF belt, 'The Highlight', as he is known, plans to present an evolved and intelligent version of himself as a fighter during the highly anticipated clash. In an interview with 'Cageside Press', the athlete highlighted the need to fight with perfection.
“Since that fight, I have certainly grown. He's five years old. I was 29 years old. Lots of big fights between then and now and the day I fight him. I'm human and I'm susceptible to making mistakes. I think I made a huge mistake in the Charles Oliveira fight, I was super emotional. And I think that's something that I'm not going to allow to happen in this fight and I think it's going to be a bit of a chess match, but with both of us trying to create damage at all times. Five rounds, obviously you have to fight smart. The title fight, usually the first one to make a mistake, loses. At the end of the day, I have to be perfect and I’m fighting a killer,” Gaethje said.

Protagonists of UFC 291, Gaethje and Poirier will fight for the BMF belt on July 29, after Jorge masvidal have retired and left the title vacant. Present in the top five of the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg), the fighters meet again five years after their first meeting, where Dustin got the better of him and triumphed by technical knockout in the fourth round.
Victorious in his last appearance, Justin could get closer to a fight against the champion in case of redemption over his rival. Currently third in the category ranking, the North American has accumulated 24 triumphs and four setbacks in his career.
