Rogério Minotouro approved the opponent that the UFC chose for his return to the octagon. The Brazilian, sidelined since the beginning of 2013 due to a back injury, will face Anthony Johnson at UFC on FOX 12, on July 26th.
Despite the long period of inactivity, Minotouro did not hesitate in accepting the fight with Johnson, who is currently ranked fifth in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings. “I found out about this fight on Tuesday (6) and I immediately accepted. I am very happy with this challenge. O Anthony Johnson He is a very tough fighter and is coming off an excellent victory [against Phil Davis, at UFC 172]. Despite the long downtime, I am very confident in having a great fight and achieving my third consecutive victory in the UFC”, said the leader of Team Nogueira, who won in his last two fights, Tito Ortiz e Rashad evans. “I really believe in my potential and I know that I can be among the top fighters in my category for a long time to come.”
Minotouro admitted that he was upset with the long period of inactivity, but promised to return with everything in training – which will feature Olympic wrestler Khetag Pilev, who had already helped the fighter in his last fight.
“Having stopped all this time was very complicated for me. I love fighting. Spending more than a year without being able to do what I love most upset me a lot, but now that's a thing of the past and you'll see me active again, very hungry for victory. I'm already putting together my planning camp and I will prepare at a very high level”, said Minotouro.
