“I think the biggest improvement was because of everything that was going on, sometimes you're doing the same thing over and over again. I didn't expect to go through so much in preparation, but because of that, I kind of had to take a step back and find a different way to get through my training and get to this fight. Because of that, we had a more strategic look, 'Okay, what am I leaving out?'. We were more strategic: 'Okay, when I'm in the cage, I can win rounds like this. Every round, just win. If you win every round, you win the fight.' Then the submissions, knockouts; all of this is a consequence”, reflected Dern in a press conference after the fight.

Still talking about his great performance, Mackenzie highlighted that the calm ends up deceiving the athlete's life.
“These are things I've been hearing for a few years, but like I said, sometimes when everything is organized in your life, you don't notice these things. All the chaos really brought out this focus of me wanting to win, what I need to do to win, and then I realized the strategy and focus to maintain my fight IQ”, concluded the fighter.
