Best-placed Brazilian in the UFC flyweight rankings, Jussier formiga You already have your next appointment made official. It will be on August 2nd, in Los Angeles (United States), when he will face Zach Makovsky at UFC 176.
At 29 years old, Formiga, sixth in the rankings, is coming off a victory over Scott Jorgensen in Natal, at the end of March. The fight, however, was surrounded by controversy, as the Brazilian hit the North American with a headbutt moments before the finish. In his previous fights in the UFC, Formiga alternated victories and defeats: he lost to Joseph Benavidez, beat Chris Cariaso and was defeated by John Dodson.
Three years younger, Makovsky is a former Bellator bantamweight champion. He is undefeated in his short UFC career to date, beating Jorgensen himself last year and Josh Sampo at UFC 170 in February. The two fights, which ended in the judges' decision, were enough to place the athlete in ninth place in the flyweight rankings.
So far, three fights have been confirmed for UFC 176, and all involve Brazilian fighters. The main fight will have José Aldo making another defense of the featherweight belt against his old rival Chad Mendes. Bethe “Pitbull” Correia will face Shayna Baszler in the women’s bantamweight category.
