With the retirement of Jorge Masvidal, UFC selects lightweight icons to fight for the 'BMF' belt

Thursday (16) was full of great revelations for MMA. On Instagram, Dana White made the confrontation between Dustin poirier e Justin gaethje, valid for the belt 'BMF', vacant after the retirement of Jorge masvidal. The duel takes place on July 29th, in Salt Lake City (USA), and represents the main fight of the UFC 291.

Current number two in the lightweight rankings (up to 70,3kg), Poirier is heading towards a new historic clash in the organization. The athlete will face his first confrontation in 2023 and will step into the octagon around eight months after his victory in the battle against Michael chandler.

Famous for his aggressiveness, Gaethje will also have the opportunity to win the MMA 'Toughest' belt. The challenge against Poirier comes approximately four months after his triumph in the 'war' against Raphael Fiziev.

In addition to the title at stake, the clash will have another important point. The confrontation marks the rematch between the athletes. In the first fight, which took place in 2018, Dustin came out on top, overcoming his opponent via knockout in the fourth round.
