Victim of 'massacre' at UFC 283 responds to attacks aimed at coaches

In a match valid for UFC women's flyweight (up to 56,7kg), Lauren Murphy went to Rio de Janeiro to face Jéssica 'Bate-Estaca', in UFC 283. After a tough defeat, the American has defended her coaches, who received attacks for not having 'thrown in the towel' during the fight. In three rounds, the veteran suffered 237 blows.

“All the 'podcasters' and fans screaming about 'Lauren Murphy needs a new corner and they needed to throw in the towel'. Is anyone arguing that Glover's corner should have stopped? I saw him after the fights and he looked a lot worse than me. Both eyes are closed and he had no response to Hill's attacks (…) where were these people when Joanna Jedrzejczyk looked like a f****** Megamind in his fight with Zhang? If they are concerned about her safety, why weren't they yelling for her to be taken out of the fight? Competitive or not, shouldn’t your “safety” have come first? It's a fight. At the end of the confrontation, two judges scored 10-8 in two rounds for Jéssica. The score reflects a great imbalance between the two fighters that night. Murphy was aware of the risks and claims he has nothing to complain about.

“I signed up for this! I was beaten, I wasn't murdered! I have two black eyes today and that's it. I will be fine. Getting my ass kicked is part of the job sometimes! I'm okay with that and if you're an MMA fan, you should be too. I told my corner I would do whatever they wanted, and I tried really hard to make that happen. I didn't have some of the tools that I need to make that happen, but that doesn't mean I should be judged like, 'You don't have a chance,'” the fighter continued.

According to the athlete, when a combatant gives up their fights for some reason, everyone is attacked in the same way.

“The corner of Cynthia calvillo You threw in the towel for her and you sent her a message to kill herself. I changed my trainers after the fight with Valentina Shevchenko and it's still not enough for you. It's more than enough for me. These guys are some of the best coaches I've ever had. I'm very grateful that they let me fight until the end”, concluded Lauren.

An Ultimate employee since 2014, 'the lucky one', as she is known, has eight wins and six losses in the company. During her career, only Valentina managed to beat her in the fast lane.
