Durinho supports Glover in his decision not to accept a last-minute fight with Ankalaev for the belt: 'UFC made a mistake'

Brazilian highlight of Ultimate, Gilbert Durinho came out in defense of Glover Teixeira with regard to the miner's refusal to face Magomed Ankalayev last minute at UFC 282. In an interview with 'Canal Encarada', the Niteroi native analyzed the decision of the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), who would initially compete for the title in a rematch with Jiri Prochazka. The Czech, however, ended up suffering a serious injury.

“Glover knows he is at the end of his career, and his steps have to be well measured. (…) I thought it was wrong to change my opponent in two weeks for the belt. With (Jan) Blachowicz, the game wouldn’t change, but against Ankalaev, it needs an adjustment,” said Gilbert.

According to Teixeira, in an interview given to SUPER LUTAS, the Minas Gerais native himself suggested that Blachowicz be Prochazka's immediate replacement. The option, however, was rejected by the UFC.

In defense of Glover, Durinho assured that he supports the Minas Gerais native's decision to leave the event.

“He (Teixeira) did the right thing and the UFC faltered”, he concluded.

With Glover and Prochazka out of the show on December 10, Ultimate acted quickly and confirmed the new protagonists. Before, in the co-main clash, Jan Blachowicz e Magomed Ankalayev They will fight for the light heavyweight title, vacated by Jiri after his injury was confirmed.
