UFC 169 is scheduled for next Saturday (01) with Brazilians Renan Barao e José Aldo defending the bantamweight and featherweight titles, respectively. However, the event may undergo a change in date at short notice. This is because the show takes place the day before the Super Bowl – the final of the NFL, an American football league – and the most traditional sporting event in the United States may be brought forward to Saturday due to the forecast of snowfall during the game.
As UFC 169 and the Super Bowl take place in the New Jersey region, Dana White, president of Ultimate, has already revealed that he may change the date of his show. The director revealed the information after the UFC on FOX 10 press conference, held last night.
To make the possible date change possible, Ultimate created a contingency plan. However, the show will only take the step of postponing its card if the NFL confirms the change of game date.
The weather forecast for Sunday is for a maximum temperature of 2°C and a minimum of -3°C, with a 30% chance of snow. MetLife Stadium, the stadium that will host the Super Bowl, is open and has no roof for spectator seats. On the other hand, the blizzard would not affect UFC 169, which will be held in the indoor gym.
