Former rival of Patrício Pitbull, AJ McKee massacres in insane fight and debuts at lightweight with victory at Bellator 286

Former featherweight champion takes no notice of the brave Spike Carlyle and beats rival with unanimous decision by the judges

Former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) and rival of Patrick Pitbull, A. J. McKee was successful in his debut at lightweight (up to 70,3kg.). Highlighted at Bellator 286, held this Saturday (1), in Long Beach (USA), the North American took no notice of Spike Carlyle and went through the insane challenge unquestionably. After a massacre of around 15 minutes, the combatant was declared the winner in a unanimous decision by the judges.

A pupil of the organization, McKee took the first step towards a dream fight for the group's belt. With the victory, AJ will be placed in the top 10 of the group led by Patricky Pitbull.

Victim of the former featherweight champion, Spike sought victory in the opening seconds of the confrontation, but ended up being a victim of his physical condition, despite putting on a show of resistance. The stumble impedes the fighter's advancement in lightweight and ends a sequence of five positive results.

The fight

In the opening seconds, Carlyle attacked McKee with a flying knee. The former featherweight champion responded with a cross, which knocked his rival off balance. Spike recovered and attempted a guillotine choke. AJ reversed the position, threatened a rear naked choke, but Carlyle protected himself well and came back on top. In a dominant position, Sipe attacked with ground and pound. From below, McKee responded to his opponent's actions. Near the final minute, AJ managed to sweep his opponent and came out on top. Afterwards, the former featherweight champion got to his back and attempted a rear-naked choke. Spike protected himself, but there was still drama. The assault ended with the athletes exchanging blows on the canvas.

In the second stage, McKee took the initiative and shook his opponent with a straight left to the face. Carlyle went to the clinch and tried to recover. AJ pressed his opponent against the bars and managed a takedown. The former featherweight champion managed to get to the back and tried to take advantage of his opponent's obvious fatigue. After just over two minutes, Spike showed courage and managed to stay on his feet, but was knocked down again by his opponent. Again, Carlyle got up and McKee continued massacring. With two minutes remaining, AJJ tried a triangle. Spike tried to defend himself, but also suffered from knees to the waist. In the final seconds, McKee went for ground and pound, but there was no more time.

The last round began with McKee throwing a spinning kick, which went wide. The former champion continued to control the actions and did not give his opponent a chance. After combining punches and kicks, AJ took his opponent to the ground and began attacking him with ground and pound. Halfway through the round, Carlyle managed to stay on his feet, but was immediately taken down by his opponent. AJ continued to give his opponent no chance to recover. With about two minutes left in the match, McKee attempted a guillotine choke, but Carlyle resisted. With about a minute left, Spike struggled to stand, but AJ wouldn't allow it. One of the biggest bets for the future of Bellator, Aaron Pico experienced a true nightmare this weekend. Promising in the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg), the young man ended up injuring his collarbone in the first round of his confrontation against Jeremy kennedy. Unable to continue the confrontation, the clash ended up being interrupted during the first round, with a technical knockout being declared.

With the defeat, Pico momentarily moves away from his dream of fighting for the category title. In addition to the anticlimax, Aaron could lose third place in the group rankings.

Archuleta beats Barzola and wins again in Bellator

Former bantamweight champion, Juan Archuleta has plenty of reasons to celebrate. With the dream of retaking the category throne in the future, the athlete did not have an easy life, but he went through the challenge against Enrique Barzola in the confrontation that opened the main card. After 15 minutes marked by balance, the former title holder was declared the winner in a unanimous decision by the judges.

With the result, Archuleta ends an unprecedented negative streak in his career. Before climbing into the circular cage, the athlete had two consecutive stumbles. In addition to returning to the winning path, the fighter defends third place in the rankings.

Surpassed by Juan, Enrique Berzola lost the opportunity to take a position in the top 5. The athlete, then, must remain in ninth place in the group that has Sergio Pettis (linear) and Raufeon Stots (interim) as champions.
