At 31 years of age, Luis Besouro has a record of eleven wins, two defeats and one draw. The athlete was one of the highlights of TUF Brasil 2, but ended up being cut from the program after suffering an injury to his right hand. After the end of the reality show, Besouro was hired by the UFC, along with the Argentine Santiago Ponzinibbio, but, unlike his teammate, he had not yet debuted for the organization.

UFC Fight Night 34 takes place on January 4, 2014, in Singapore. In the main fight of the night, the last welterweight champion of the now defunct Strikeforce Tarec saffiedine faces South Korean Hyun Gyu Lim, who replaced the injured Jake ellenberger in combat. In addition to Besouro, another Brazilian is also scheduled for the event: Hacran Dias, who faces the Japanese Tatsuya Kawajiri.
