There is a lot of speculation about the change of Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight category. The fighter leaves the hypothesis open, but says that his next commitment in the UFC will still be as a heavyweight. And the opponent, if it depends on him, will be Roy Nelson.

In an interview with the MMA Fighting website, the teammate of Cain Velazquez at the American Kickboxing Academy said he would like to face Nelson at UFC 166, in October, an event that will be led by Velasquez himself, a personal friend of Cormier, against Junior Gypsy.

“Roy and I have unfinished business,” he said. “I hope he signs a renewal of his contract with the UFC so that we can resolve what started two months ago. I want to give him an opportunity to reverse his performance against Stipe (Miocic), since he accepted the fight with little notice. In my opinion, that defeat doesn’t diminish his place much in the UFC heavyweight division,” added Cormier

The problem between the fighters began when Nelson accused Cormier of refusing to face Miocic at UFC 161. Cormier said he was not cleared by his doctor to perform and Nelson accepted the fight, which was the last of his contract. Roy preferred to leave the renewal for later, betting on asking for a good raise if he achieved his fourth consecutive victory. However, Miocic's undisputed triumph stalled the athlete's negotiations with the UFC.
