the defeat of Amanda nunes for Julianna Pena in the bantamweight belt dispute (up to 61,2kg.) in UFC 269 will give you something to talk about. A fan of the Brazilian legend, the president of Ultimate, Dana White, does not hide his surprise at the setback of the now former champion and said that the result is the biggest upset in the history of the organization. In a press conference after the show this Saturday (11), the president was asked about the matter and did not shy away.

“It’s a very good question. He’s at the top, along with (Matt) Serra and GSP (Georges St-Pierre)”, said the boss.

White's level of surprise reminded the promoter of a big upset in the company. The duel in question took place in 2007, when the then welterweight champion (up to 77kg), St-Pierre, who already had star status, ended up crushed against the big underdog.

The days of UFC 269, little was said about the possibility of Peña making history and dethroning Nunes, who had led the division since 2016. The Venezuelan, however, silenced some of the critics and achieved a submission over what, for many, is the best fighter of all times.

With the stumble, Amanda, in addition to losing the title, had a sequence of 12 positive results interrupted. The Brazilian has not lost a match since 2014, when she was beaten by Zingano cat.
