At the end of the parade, the Brazilian received the “key to Danbury” from Mayor Joseph M. Cavo, “in recognition of the UFC title and appreciation for his contributions to the city”.
“I'm very happy with what happened here. I came to Danbury in 1999. The people here are very hardworking, they opened their arms to me. In Brazil, I had the dream of being a professional athlete. I came here and said, 'This is the land of opportunities. I want to be world champion.' Greg Davis (former coach) is one of the guys who was there when I arrived. I didn't know much in English, and he asked: 'Why do you train jiu-jitsu?'. I said, 'Because I want to be world champion,'” said Glover.
At 42, Glover Teixeira became the oldest fighter to win a UFC belt for the first time. The Brazilian still has no plans to defend his title, but the tendency is for him to face the Pole Jiri Prochazka, second in the light heavyweight rankings, in 2022.
