In a respectful statement, Esparza congratulates Namajunas, remembers the rivalry and asks for a chance at the title

First strawweight champion recognizes Rose's position and maintains dream of reuniting with champion seven years after their first fight

Current number two in the strawweight rankings (up to 52,1kg.), Carla esparza believes that she is already qualified for a title fight. First champion of the division, the veteran used social media to challenge Rose namajunas for the group throne. The request, however, came respectfully. The athletes fought for the category's inaugural title in 2014.

“Congratulations on the fantastic victory (in the UFC 268). You are an inspiration to many and I am happy for you. Fate made our paths cross when we created this category. I’m proud that seven years later, we’re both still on top,” wrote Esparza, on her Twitter account. Instagram.

The challenge came next. The division's first champion, however, made a point of stating that the tone of the message was not provocative.

“This is not a challenge or something disrespectful. You deserve to celebrate and enjoy the achievement. It will be an honor to fight you again when you are ready,” she concluded.

An MMA professional since 2010, Carla got the better of the first meeting against Rose. On that occasion, the fighter beat the current champion with a submission in the third round. Today, the veteran is enjoying a great moment in the company, with five consecutive victories.

Esparza's proposal arrived hours after Namajunas' triumph over Weili Zhang. Last Saturday, Rose defeated the former champion on points in a rematch that lasted 25 minutes.
