The challenger John hendricks needed to knock out Martin Kampmann and Jon Fitch, in addition to winning Josh koscheck, to qualify as a challenger to Georges St-Pierre. When it seemed like it would be time to fight for the belt, the champion preferred to face Nick Diaz and Hendricks had to win Carlos Condit.

This arduous journey showed Hendricks that challenging GSP's belt would not be easy. The American is so aware of this that he even knows that the probability of having to beat the Canadian twice is high. Johnny told MMA Weekly:

“I'm going to have to beat him twice. Unless I knock him out. If I mistreat you for two rounds and then knock him out, so they won't get a rematch. But if it’s a close fight or I get there and knock him out in the first minute, yes, there will be a rematch.”

Not even the difficulties and the long wait can dampen the enthusiasm of the challenger, who still doesn't have an official date to face St-Pierre. “I’m so excited to finally step into the Octagon and see that Georges will be on the other side,” continued Hendricks. “That's all I can think about. This is what I dream about every day. Words can't explain how excited I am.”
