Despite the relatively quiet victory over James Te Huna at UFC 160, his fourth consecutive UFC victory, Glover Teixeira received one of the biggest medical suspensions of the event. The Brazilian and the New Zealander Mark Hunt, defeated by Junior Gypsy, were preventively suspended for six months.
In the case of Glover, who submitted his opponent just over two minutes into the fight, the suspension is justified by injuries suffered on his right hand and elbow. Hunt, who was punished by Cigano until he was knocked out in the second round, suffered a fractured big toe on his right foot. Both athletes must not train until July 10th.
Another five athletes may be sidelined until November, depending on medical clearance, they are: Gray Maynard (to evaluate unusual dilation in the right pupil), Dennis Bermudez (injured feet and right hand), Khabib Nurmagomedov (suspected left knee injury), Stephen Thompson (suspected left foot injury) and Brian Bowles (suspected right hand injury).
The other athletes in the event, including Brazilians Antonio Pezão e Junior Gypsy, were only suspended preventively and should return to training and playing soon. It is worth remembering that in most cases fighters return to training before the stipulated deadline, given that many stoppages are precautionary measures.
