Dominated by Kamaru Usman, the UFC welterweight division (up to 77 kg) is one of the most crowded at the moment. The line of challengers willing to fight for the Nigerian title, which was already long, could become even bigger with the return of Nick Diaz to the octagon.

According to Usman's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, a victory of Nick Diaz about Robbie Lawler No. UFC 266 it would be enough to elevate the former challenger to the first place in line for an opportunity to fight for the belt.
"I know Nick Diaz defeat Robbie Lawler, he automatically becomes the number one contender. He brings a lot to the table,” said Ali Abdelaziz on his Twitter profile.
Currently, the first in line for the belt is Colby covington. The North American faces Kamaru Usman in a rematch in the main event of UFC 268, on November 06th, probably at Madison Square Garden, in New York. The two faced each other in December 2019, with the Nigerian winning by knockout.
Colvington has already secured the opportunity to fight for the title, but Abdelaziz's statement could frustrate some other names awaiting their opportunities, such as Leon edwards and the brazilians Vincent Luque e Gilbert Durinho.
Nick Diaz returns from a six-year hiatus to face Robbie Lawler No. UFC 266, on September 25th. Diaz's last fight took place at UFC 183, in January 2015, against Anderson Silva, and ended up with no result.
