Vladimir Matyushenko signs contract with Bellator

The 42-year-old UFC veteran was coming off two consecutive losses in the UFC

VLADIMIR MATYUSHENKOVeteran Vladimir Matyushenko already has a new job. After being fired by UFC for accumulating three defeats in five appearances, the Belarusian athlete is Bellator's new contract. The announcement was made this Thursday (18) by the organization's president, Bjorn Rebney.

“He came here and we talked. We sat in the office and had a long meeting. He is sure that he is at a stage in his career where he can still compete at a high level,” said the manager.

Vladimir Matyushenko, 42, has a record of 26 wins and seven losses. His last triumph came at UFC 129 in April 2011, when he beat Jason Brilz via technical knockout.

“Bellator is one of the biggest organizations in the world, and being with them is an honor. I'm optimistic and excited about working with Bellator. I have a lot of respect for Bjorn, and stepping into the Bellator ring to cement my legacy as a champion is the only thing on my mind,” said Matyushenko.

    Without a doubt he's a great fighter, but I think MMA has already given him that.
