Khabib Nurmagomedov gives prediction for fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier

Former lightweight champion believes that Conor McGregor's only chance of emerging victorious is to end the fight in the first round

On the 10th of July, Conor McGregor e Dustin poirier face each other for the third time in the main fight of the UFC 264, in Las Vegas, with an eye on a fight for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg). Former category champion, the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov gave his guess for the long-awaited outcome of the trilogy.

In an interview with the official UFC channel in Russia, Khabib Nurmagomedov stated that the only chance of Conor McGregor Winning would mean ending the fight in the first round. Otherwise, in the Russian's opinion, victory is likely to go to Dustin poirier.

“It’s the same thing (as the last fight between them). If it only lasts one round, I'll bet on Conor. From the second onwards, Dustin wins”, bet the Russian.

During the interview, Khabib spoke about the balance in the lightweight division. The former champion believes that the division has the most talent in all of Ultimate and sees a kind of “world war” taking place in it.

“It’s a very interesting division. You have Brazilians, like Charles Oliveira and Rafael dos Anjos; the Americans, with Poirier, Gaethje, Chandler; and the Russians with Makhachev, Ismagulov, Fiziev and Tsarukyan”, analyzed Khabib.

The current UFC lightweight champion is Charles “Do Bronx”. The Brazilian won the title, which had been vacant since the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov, by defeating Michael chandler No. UFC 262, in May this year. Charles' first defense has not yet been confirmed, but it appears that it will be against the winner of the duel between Poirier and McGregor on July 10th.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, in turn, announced his retirement in October 2020, after defeating Justin gaethje No. UFC 254. Undefeated in his professional career, with 29 victories, the former champion made the decision to hang up his gloves after the tragic loss of his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who passed away in July 2020, victim of Covid-19.
