Ultimate president Dana White's statement that Colby covington should be the next challenger for the welterweight title (up to 77kg.) does not seem to have convinced Kamaru Usman. With no interest in a rematch against his old rival, the Nigerian surprised him by challenging Nate diaz, which recently lost to Leon edwards, UFC 263. The champion's provocation came after criticism from 'bad boy' to the supposed new commitment of the group leader.

“Who is this guy (Usman) going to face next? A guy he already knocked out,” Diaz wrote on his social media.

Nate's post caught the attention of Kamaru, who wasted no time in responding to the North American. In an ironic tone, the champion was clear in challenging the 'bad boy'.

“If you really want that 187 (police code for murder), then call your friend Hunter (Campbell). (…) You are all internet bullies”, replied Usman, citing one of those responsible for negotiating fights in the UFC.

Even defeated by Leon edwards No. UFC 263, Diaz left the octagon with the certainty of a good result. The North American was dominated by the Englishman for almost five rounds, however, at the end of the confrontation, he came close to knocking out his opponent, exciting some of the spectators. Thus, the veteran believes he has done enough for a confrontation against the category leader.

Ultimate Champion since 2019, Usman continues to grow within MMA. Since he dethroned Tyron woodley, the Nigerian defended his belt four times. The fighter has not performed since the brutal knockout over Jorge masvidal, at the end of April.
