Former UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), Sean Sherk says the company should feel ashamed about its fighters' salaries. On your official account on 'Facebook', the North American reveals that the problem is recurrent and spoke about the superfights between athletes and stars of the youtube in boxing.
“I think the UFC should be extremely embarrassed that their former champions and top fighters have to fight YouTube stars with almost no fighting experience and make 10 times more money than in the UFC. I have been retired for 10 years and nothing has changed in the organization. UFC fighters are still the lowest-paid athletes on the biggest stage. Believe me, I have my stories too,” wrote Sherk.
In response to a fan who asked what wrestlers need to do differently, Sherk suggested that wrestlers should organize a union of sorts if they want change.
“The fighters are not doing anything wrong. Fighters want to win world titles on a bigger stage. I've been there, so I know. What is wrong is that fighters need to unionize. Without UFC there will still be fighters. But without a fighter there is no UFC. For some reason, fighters refuse to do this. It has to be an 'all or nothing' kind of thing”, concluded the fighter.
At 47 years old, Sean Sherk ended his career in 2010, after winning Evan dunham in the judges' split decision. The North American was lightweight champion between 2006 and 2008 and had a record of 36 wins, four setbacks and one draw.
