After a public exchange between Conor McGregor e Dustin poirier, which almost resulted in the cancellation of the trilogy between the athletes, Ultimate acted quickly and confirmed the new fight for the UFC 264. Although the fighters had already made the agreement official, the organization had not yet given its position on the clash. The duel will take place on July 10, with no location yet defined.

The third meeting between McGregor and Poirier has everything set to make MMA history. In the clash promoted in January, by UFC 257, the athletes achieved satisfactory figures for the company, breaking important audience records.
In addition to the financial advantage, the trilogy will be of great importance for the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg) of Ultimate. The winner of the confrontation will be able to win the chance to face the new champion of the category, who will be announced after the clash between Charles of the Bronx e Michael chandler, on May 15nd.
With one win each, Conor and Dustin met for the first time in 2014, when they were still playing at featherweight (up to 65,7kg). At the time, the Irishman took no notice of his rival and emerged victorious with a knockout in the first round. More than six years later, the North American got revenge, beating 'Notório' on the same fast track, but in the second stage.
