Good news for fans of Khamzat Shimaev. After flirting with retirement, admitting not being able to fight at a high level due to the consequences of Covid-19, the Swede may have given up on the idea. The controversy involving the Swede began after the athlete was removed from the fight against Leon edwards for not having adequately recovered from Covid-19, contracted in December 2020. At the time, the athlete vented on his social networks regretting the fact that he was not able to train at a high level.

Shortly afterwards, the president of Ultimate, Dana White, went public to explain what had happened to his pupil. According to the 'boss', the welterweight (up to 77kg) was taking a strong medication prescribed by doctors and should not undergo physical exertion, having to rest.

During training, Khamzat reportedly coughed up blood, which started the whole mess. Weeks later, White admitted that he didn't know what would happen to the athlete's trajectory, which is considered one of the biggest bets for the future of the organization.

Meteoric rise

Former BRAVE representative, Chimaev emerged into Ultimate like a hurricane. The athlete debuted with the organization in July 2020 and, in less than three months, he had already performed three times for the company, winning all of them resoundingly.

After Khamzat's last triumph, when the combatant defeated the veteran Gerald meerschaert with just 17 seconds left, the organization decided to test the Swede. The fighter was then selected to face the experienced Leon edwards and, if he overcame the Englishman, he could put himself in great condition to compete for the title that currently belongs to Kamaru Usman.

The clash against Edwards ended up being postponed twice and, on the third, it was cancelled. Chimaev then gave way to Belal Muhammad | and postponed his dream of facing a representative of the welterweight elite.

At 26 years old, Khamzat today has a perfect record. With nine fights in professional MMA, the UFC's new favorite has never known what it's like to lose.
