The meeting with Diaz has great significance in Rafael's career, who recently returned to his old category. On that occasion, more than six years ago, the Brazilian not only ran over one of the biggest names in the organization, he also stamped his passport for the title fight in the category at the time.

After beating Nate, Dos Anjos was scheduled to face the then champion, Anthony Pettis. At UFC 185, RDA overcame 'Showtime' and took home the lightweight title.

In addition to Rafael, another fighter who was excited about Diaz's possible return to the category led by Khabib Nurmagomedov was Conor McGregor. Former champion of the division, the 'Notório' faced the 'bad-boy' twice, in 2016. The clashes between the fighters had a large audience and a new duel would break the tie, as each one won in one opportunity . The Irishman's idea is to promote a trilogy with his rival.

Coveted in the category, Diaz has not stepped into the Octagon since November 2019, at least UFC 244. In one of the most prestigious shows of the year, the North American held a super fight against Jorge masvidal, valid for the symbolic belt of 'Most Thick in MMA'. In the clash, Nate ended up defeated by technical knockout.
