It's not always show day. In one of the most anticipated fights in the UFC Las Vegas 17, held this Saturday (19), Michael Pereira he fulfilled his role and came away with victory in the duel against Khaos Willimans, on the main card. In three busy rounds, the Brazilian came close to winning by submission, but ended up taking the result with a unanimous decision from the judges.

Known as a 'showman', Pereira started the season with a controversial defeat to Diego Sanchez, but managed to end the year with a lot of reason to smile. After beating Zelim Imadaev impeccably in September, now the athlete has achieved a positive result with UFC gloves, something that the man from Pará had not achieved until then.

Considered one of the promises for the welterweight division (up to 77kg.), Khaos Williams ended up suffering his first negative result for the UFC. Debuting in 2020, the fighter sought to end the year with 100% success, but his undefeated streak ended this weekend. At 26 years old, the North American hadn't lost in eight appearances.

The fight

The confrontation began with the two athletes studying each other in the center of the Octagon. The first to take the initiative was the Brazilian with a jab and straight that hit the North American square in the face. Michel continued moving, while Williams saved his strikes and tried to find the best distance. Halfway through the round, Khaos started throwing low kicks, but Pereira didn't seem to feel the attacks. After three minutes, Pereira risked a front kick, but ended up having his leg caught, suffering a hard blow to the face afterwards. Michel walked backwards and changed his facial expression immediately. The Brazilian tried the attack again and suffered a counterattack immediately. In the final seconds, Michel risked a flying knee, but the blow went empty.

In the second stage, Michel came back trying to find the distance. Williams connected two jabs to the Brazilian's face, who continued moving around the octagon, trying to induce his rival to make a mistake. After a minute had passed, Pereira connected with a right hand bomb that exploded in his rival's face, but Khaos didn't even move. Williams responded with a series of punches and the man from Pará clung to his opponent to avoid damage. Even suffering from dangerous counterattacks, the Brazilian continued to walk towards his opponent. In the final minute, Khaos took advantage of a distraction from Pereira, and connected a sequence of three punches, which shook the Brazilian. The man from Pará looked for the clinch, but the North American managed to free himself easily. Near the end of the stage, the Brazilian took the fight to the ground and almost managed a rear naked choke, but the bell sounded.

In the last round, the athletes needed to resolve any doubts about the result of the confrontation. Pereira started to 'tap dance' in the octagon and provoked his opponent. The Brazilian threw a low kick and, afterwards, his rival applied a cross and a straight shot to the Brazilian's face. Halfway through the round, the athletes accepted the open fight, with the advantage going to Khaos, who connected the best attacks on Michel's head. Near the final minute, Michel went for his rival's legs and managed a good takedown. From below, Williams exploded and managed to get up. Standing, Michel landed a direct shot on his rival's face, followed by a low kick. Pereira went back to looking for his opponent's legs and took Khaos to the ground again. At the ground and pound, the Brazilian struck with punches and elbows, but there was no more time.
