Biggest favorite to face Kamaru Usman for the linear welterweight belt (up to 77kg.), Gilbert Durinho has been living with the uncertainty of when he will have the opportunity to exchange forces against the category champion. After two postponements – discarding the UFC 251, when the Niteroi native left the card due to Covid-19 -, the Brazilian still doesn't know the exact date on which he will compete for the division title.

“The fight was postponed until January 23 (UFC 257). I was like: ok, no problem. Let's keep working and improve. Then they started targeting February 13th (UFC 258), but we haven't seen the contract yet. I'm anxious. I have the word from Dana (White) and the UFC that this is the date they want. Now, I'm waiting for the contract and training to evolve”, said Gilbert, in an interview with 'KumiteTV'.

Durinho received confirmation that he would fight for the belt after his impressive victory over the former division champion, Tyron woodley, in May. The triumph over the North American gave the Brazilian first place in the group ranking.

Durinho's challenger position was threatened after Colby covington – Usman’s great rival – also defeated Woodley. After beating the former division leader, the loudmouth ended up taking the number one position, causing Gilbert to fall to second.

Still, the Brazilian remains the favorite to face Kamaru. Ultimate's president, Dana White, has already declared on a few occasions that the Niteroi native will be the Nigerian's next opponent.
