Joanna Jedrzejczyk denies retirement, but does not predict her return: 'I don't fight without an audience'

Former strawweight champion expressed dismay at watching fights without fans and explained that she needs fans when she is in action

One of the most exciting fighters in MMA and popular among fans, Joanna Jedrzejczyk is raising doubts about his future in the sport. The former UFC strawweight champion (52,2kg) was last seen in action in March 2020, in the battle against the number one in the category, Zhang Weili, and, after suffering a lot of damage, decided to step aside.

However, this is not the end of the polonaise. When interviewed by Laura Sanko, one of the organization's analysts, Joanna reassured her fans, assuring that she will continue in the sport and blamed the Covid-19 pandemic for this time away, as she doesn't see herself fighting without fans and can't wait. to have that support again.

“I'm living my dream and I'm very happy. I'm not retired and I'll keep fighting. Many ask me if I stopped fighting, but no. I'm just taking a break. I don't see myself fighting without an audience. I like interacting with people and I don't struggle without them. There is no sport without fans! I want them to watch me live and I want their support. I need it! I like to feel people's energy. This atmosphere has always done me a lot of good,” said Joanna.

Even without fighting and unable to go to the United States, the Polish woman reaffirmed her loyalty to American Top Team, her gym.

“Because of the pandemic, I cannot return to the United States. I don't see myself preparing in Poland or anywhere else outside of American Top Team. I love those people and that's my team. I think I will return in 2021. I was planning to return to the United States this year, but it will probably be January”, he concluded.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk she became strawweight champion in 2015 and defended her belt five times. The last one was, precisely, against Jessica Andrade, in 2017. After winning 'Bate-Estaca', the Polish woman was defeated in combats worth the belt for Rose namajunas, twice, Valentina Shevchenko and Zhang Weili.
