Winner in the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 11, held this Saturday (19), Colby covington I probably couldn't be happier. After dominating and beating the former welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg), 'Chaos' was surprised by a call from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, while he was giving an interview to 'ESPN' (see the video below).

Covington was talking about his performance against Woodley, which put him back in contention for a future title shot. In the middle of the statement, the athlete interrupted and, when he realized who it was, he became visibly moved. The president had called to congratulate the athlete on his achievement.

“You’re a great fighter, man. I'm proud of you. You made it look easy. Congratulations, I wanted to watch this fight today. He (Woodley) is a strong guy, he's a great fighter, he was the champion. (…) I gave a speech to 35 people and said, 'I need to go home and watch Colby.' I'm your fan and you're my fan. We are two figures. Win the belt and bring it here. I'm rooting for you. See you soon,” said Trump, put on speakerphone by the former interim champion.

Infected by the head of state's words, Covington couldn't contain his joy. The athlete thanked the president for his support and promised to win the light heavyweight belt.

“Thank you very much, Mr President. You filled me with energy when you shook my hand on Sunday (13). I wasn't going to lose after shaking your hand. He (Woodley) is a strong guy, a former champion, but it doesn't matter that he's in front of me. After seeing you, I don't care if Superman was there. I would beat anyone. I’m going to take the new belt for you”, concluded Covington.

With the victory in UFC Las Vegas 11, Colby puts himself back in the fight to compete for the category belt, which today belongs to Kamaru Usman, his last tormentor. The champion, however, negotiates a confrontation against Gilbert Durinho protocols for UFC 256, in December. Covington, then, may have to take one fight before earning the chance to try to win the title again.
