Without a TV deal, Strikeforce may close activities

Strikeforce could be nearing its end. The second biggest MMA event today - behind only the UFC - has its contract with the TV channel Showtime nearing the end and negotiations have not progressed.

According to the program “Inside MMA“, negotiations to renew the partnership have not progressed in recent months and, to make matters worse, there is a risk of the contract being terminated by the broadcaster as Strikeforce has not been holding major events, which would force the organization to find a new partner, or simply close your activities.

Recently, several Strikeforce names were transferred to the UFC, which led to a loss of public interest in the show.

Acquired by Zuffa – the same owner of the UFC – in March 2011, Strikeforce recently had its first event canceled due to the injury of its lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez.
