What seemed like a joke is almost becoming reality. The Ultimate board filed a registration request for the brand of 'Ilha da Luta', a location that is being adapted to host MMA events even during the pandemic period. The information was released by the lawyer specializing in trademark registrations, Josh Gerben, on his Twitter account.

According to Gerben, Ultimate filed a request to have the right to use the names 'Fight Island' and 'UFC Fight Island'. In addition to the names, the company seeks to use the brand on other objects that can bear the chosen name, such as training equipment, towels, clothing, sports equipment, among others.
In total, 22 records were made official; 11 for 'Ilha da Luta' and the rest for 'Ilha da Luta do UFC'. The idea is that the organization is the only company to use the brand.
After announcing, last week, the temporary suspension of Ultimate activities due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the company's president, Dana White, confirmed that speculation about the adaptation of an island to promote fight shows was real. The 'boss' also said that, at this moment, professionals are working to deliver the space as soon as possible.
The idea is that the company can take its shows to 'Ilha da Luta' within a month.
On April 13, the UFC filed 22 new trademarks for:
'FIGHT ISLAND'
&
'UFC FIGHT ISLAND'
The filings were made based on an “intent to use” FIGHT ISLAND as the name of a mixed martial arts competition and for branded goods such as clothing and jewelry.#UFC # ufc249 pic.twitter.com/Q9cHHQJFBK
