Amid concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the UFC light heavyweight (up to 93 kg.), Anthony Smith, had to deal with another problem. The athlete ended up surprised by a man who broke into his home, in Nebraska (USA), in the early hours of last Sunday (5) and, to protect himself, the fighter revealed moments of tension when he got into a physical fight with the suspect.

“My wife woke me up saying there was someone in the house. Then I got up and heard a man's voice shouting from somewhere in the dark. I've never heard a person scream like that. It was dark and it was scary,” Smith said in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

Anthony then narrated the moments that preceded the physical combat. Intending to expel the suspect, the athlete left the room and went in search of the invader.

“I had to know what it was about. I went there and found a strange man standing in the computer room. He was about 15 meters away from me. He was kind of flexing and started walking towards me, yelling. So, I decided to face it. That’s when the chaos started,” said the light heavyweight.

Smith stated that he imagined that the man would be armed, so he would need to hurt him as much as possible, so that he could protect his family from possible attacks.

“I was sure there would be a gunshot, so I would need to do as much damage as possible if I was going to die. It seems stupid now, but at that moment, that's how I felt."

When talking about the confrontation with the attacker, Anthony said he was surprised by the man's ability to absorb blows, who, according to him, withstood harsh punishment.

“I was impressed with how he was able to absorb the punishment. Honestly, I don't care. I was trying to break his skull. Elbows, punches and knees, as if I were (Quinton) Rampage Jackson. I did everything I could until I realized he didn't have a gun, that's when I slowed down. During the first few minutes, I gave it my all and he was conscious by the end. He faced me all the time. He never stopped,” Smith reported.

Moments after the fight, police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect. This way, Anthony could finally calm down and think about what had happened.
