UFC Rio 2, held in January, had as its main attraction the victory of José Aldo about Chad Mendes, with the Brazilian fighter defending the featherweight belt. But the biggest moment of the night was another Tupiniquim athlete.
Edson Barboza caught the world's attention after delivering a beautiful round kick to Terry emo and knock out the opponent in a sensational way. The blow was so incredible that the Brazilian is in contention for “Moment of the Year” at the ESPY, a very traditional sports award promoted by North American ESPN.
The fighter Nova Friburgo, from the interior of Rio de Janeiro, competes for the prize, including with another Brazilian: Neymar. The Santos player is also competing for the goal scored against Flamengo in the 2011 Brazilian Championship.
Also participating in the competition in the “Moments of the Year” category are big names in the sport such as Tiger Woods, from golf, and Eli Manning, from American football.
Besides Edson Barboza and Neymar, the Brazilian has the most representation in the ESPY awards: Anderson Silva, competes for the trophy as best fighter of the year.
