Former champion of two Ultimate categories (featherweight and lightweight), Conor McGregor is close to testing himself once again in the welterweight division (up to 77kg.). Against Donald Cerrone, the Irishman will return to the octagon after more than a year away from MMA. The 'Notório' commitment caught the attention of the category champion, Kamaru Usman, who mocked Conor's chances, who stated that he would fight for the title in the future. In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', the Nigerian spoke about McGregor's chances among the heaviest.

“It would be a waste. If he gets stronger, anything can happen. Fight is fight. Anything can happen, but realistically, it's a huge waste. I think I would hurt him a lot,” Usman said.

The champion also made a point of reinforcing his idea based on the reference obtained from Conor's last performance, when the Irishman was dominated and defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main fight of UFC 229, which took place in October 2018. At the time, McGregor was defeated in the fight for the lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg.).

“We saw what Khabib (Nurmagomedov) did to him. He had to step away for a while after the Khabib fight. Now, imagine him facing me. I don’t think he would be seen in the sport again,” he stated.

Even criticizing the Irishman in his category, Kamaru does not rule out that a duel against the 'Notorious' could happen in the future. However, the champion made a point of making considerations so that the fight could take place.

“Conor doesn’t really make sense. Of course, if he reaches the division and beats some elite guys, if he manages to stay there, then we could definitely have a confrontation”, concluded the number one welterweight.

  1. Usman, the question is not what you can do with McChicken, the question is what any fighter who doesn't play his mental game does, see the two losses to Diaz (yes, he lost both, but his boyfriend , Grana White, told the referees to give him the victory in the rematch) and especially against Khabib.
