The light heavyweight champion up to (93kg.), Jon Jones, confessed why he hadn't looked into his eyes Thiago Marreta in a meeting held last Thursday (4). According to the athlete, the Brazilian wanted to convey aggressive energy before the fight that will be held this Saturday (6), at UFC 239, in Las Vegas (USA), in the fight for the belt. In an interview after the event, Jones explained that he did not want to carry a bad feeling before the big fight and, therefore, avoided eye contact.

“I thought he wanted to give me aggressive energy. And now we only have a few hours to fight and it's not really necessary to do so. For me, at least. I know that a lot of these guys go through a lot of emotional situations the first time they fight for the belt,” explained Jones.

Regarding the strategy, Jon stated that it is something thought out. The athlete avoids channeling bad moments so that he is not influenced by them when performing. For the champion, any slip-up could be fatal and affect his performance during the title fight.

“I learned one thing: save your energy, you will need it. So I decided to look elsewhere. I take this very seriously, and the story will continue like this”, declared 'Bones'.

Whenever he gives interviews, the North American has been asked about his interest in competing in duels in the heavyweight category (up to 120kg). Regarding this, this time, Jon stated something new: he intends to have six more fights at light heavyweight.

“One of my new short-term goals is to become a 20-time UFC champion. This fight will be my 14th fight for the belt, I still have six more to go. I plan to fight at least three more times next year. So, maybe in 2021, I will have been champion 20 times”, explained the champion.

If you really defeat Thiago Marreta, Jones, 31, will complete his 24th career victory in 26 engagements. It is worth remembering that Jones has a defeat by disqualification, when he was declared defeated in the clash against Matt Hamill, in 2009, for applying illegal elbows to his opponent; and a clash without result, in a dispute against Daniel Cormier, in 2017, where Jon won the fight, but had the result changed after being caught in an anti-doping test.
