Yoel Romero wins in court and earns more than R$100 million from supplements company

“Money is secondary. The most important thing is to clear Romero's name”, said the athlete's manager in an interview with 'Ariel Helwani's MMA Show'.

The situation, in fact, is a relief in many ways in the fighter's career. After having his image tarnished almost three years ago, Yoel was able to clarify the mistake with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

Upon losing the case, the company 'Gold Star Performance Products' was ordered to pay US$27,45 million, almost R$110 million, taking into account the current dollar exchange rate.

The Cuban will hardly be able to achieve similar value in an MMA fight. To give you an idea, Anderson Silva earned around R$2 million after its presentation at UFC 237, on May 11th. In the clash between Conor McGregor e Khabib Nurmagomedov, the two athletes, who starred in one of the biggest pay-per-view sales in history, at UFC 229, in October last year, earned a combined sum of US$5 million (around R$20 million, currently).

Certainly, the favorable result for the Cuban is a relief for the 42-year-old athlete's legacy. Even with no plans to retire, the athlete guaranteed a nice nest egg for the years to come.

Romero is scheduled to face the Brazilian Paulo borrachinha on August 17th, at UFC 241. This is the fourth time that Ultimate has tried to hold a duel between the two athletes.
